Even if "Hit the North" is about the poppiest song ever performed and recorded by The Fall, it was still a freakish (if welcome) experience to hear it playing in a retail clothing store while out for a Sunday afternoon of outlet shopping. As if a Sunday afternoon of outlet shopping wasn't freakish enough on its own....

How about "Perfect Day" from Trainspotting used for an advertisment during the Olympics, just bizzare.
That is freakish -- about as freakish as Mitsubishi using The Fall's "Blindness" in an SUV ad. Love the irony of a car ad using a song about a blind man...
Bizarre it is, Tom, but then maybe Lou Reed is just the new Iggy Pop, cashing in where the cashing's good.
The auto industry seems to be at the head of the pack when it comes to co-opting good music for advertising, Wicker Mike. I can remember a short-lived VW commercial that featured a Minutemen song and they got a ton of mileage out of Nick Drake, as well.
